Pickup trucks are a popular vehicle category in the US, with millions of them sold annually. However, when it comes to electric pickup trucks, choices are almost non-existing, but that is soon to change with GM’s upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV.

Information has been trickling in concerning the electric truck’s specs, and we present to you everything we know so far about the Silverado EV.

The Silverado EV is powered by the Ultium electric vehicle platform, which also powers the upcoming GMC Hummer EV, a resurrected battery-powered version of the iconic over-sized Hummers popular in the rap videos of the ’90s. In fact, Chevrolet is building the Silverado EV in Michigan in the same plant where the electric Hummer will be built.

As the electric pickup truck is based on a known platform, we have an idea of some specs of the Silverado EV. For example, the Ultium battery, which can go as large as 200 kWh, could give the truck up to 400 miles per charge, which is generous enough for work or leisure use cases.

The Ultium platform accommodates up to three electric motors, which could result in more than 1,000 hp in total. Chevrolet promises exhilarating torque.

Chevrolet says on its website that four-wheel-steer is planned for the Silverado EV, which increases agility and enables tighter turning radius at low speeds. It will also help with towing, which is expected of the pickup truck. We expect a set of 24-inch wheels from the factory.

All-wheel-drive is a natural feature at this point, which will help with navigating rougher terrains.

The roof is made from clear glass for passengers that want to watch the sky rush by during rides, a first for any pickup from GM.

As for the price, Chevrolet has yet to release the info, but it will offer a stripped-down version for fleet operators, coming at a lower price. This is similar to how Chevrolet prices the ICE version of the Silverado. There will be a more expensive trim that has more features.

GM will officially debut the Silverado EV at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2022, where we will surely get more info on price and release date.

Competing electric pickup trucks include the Rivian R1T, which is already being delivered to reservation holders, Ford’s F-150 Lightning, and Tesla’s Cybertruck.
