If the Cybertruck were a Roadster

If the Cybertruck were a Roadster

I've been a Tesla owner for a long time and am presently on my second. As a result, you may consider myself a Tesla veteran. I began with the Model S five years ago and am now two years into my Model X. Despite the fact that I like and respect both vehicles, my all-time favorite Tesla models are not currently available for purchase. The Roadster and, more recently, the Cybertruck are examples.

APPLES TO APPLES

If the Cybertruck were a Roadster

So, of course, I had to fire up Photoshop and create a comparison graphic showing a side-by-side apples-to-apples comparison of the Cybertruck and what I'm dubbing the Cyberster. In a perfect world, the Cyberster would be constructed on top of the Roadster chassis, acquiring all of its performance specifications. However, if the Cyberster incorporates the Cybertruck's famous lights and unbreakable body, the price may differ somewhat from the Roadster's.

When you consider that the Cyberster has a lighter body based on the material used in the Cybertruck, you can anticipate that the total weight of the Cyberster is far lower than that of the Roadster. With that in mind, I wouldn't be far off if I anticipated that the Cyberster will be quicker than the Roadster and have better range due to its reduced total weight.

So, without further ado, here's my apples-to-apples (or, rather, oranges-to-apples) comparison of the Cybertruck and the mythical and fantastic Cyberster.

TAKE MY MONEY

Reservations for the Tesla Roadster have been disappointing when compared to reservations for the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. As a result, you won't see any Roadster or pre-order reservation figures announced by Tesla Motors, as they have in the past for the Model 3 and Roadster.

However, I believe that if Tesla can implement the breakthrough cost-saving economics built into the Cybetruck on the Cyberster, it will be possible to sell a Cyberster for less than the $200,000 Roadster.

The amount of savings will be determined by how many cost-cutting measures are brought over from Cybertruck. Depending on those cost-cutting features, I can see the Cyberster costing between $130,000 and $180,000, bringing it within striking distance of the top-of-the-line Tesla Model X PLAID fully equipped, which costs $138,500. Elon Musk can have my money at that price.
