The Tesla Cybertruck is Tesla's first electric pickup truck and will be available in the second half of 2023. The vehicle has been in development for several years, with prototypes tested in 2018. Initially, Tesla planned to release the electric truck by 2019 but in a bit of bad news, delayed it until 2023 due to production delays with its Model Y.
Since then, other vehicle manufacturers have beat Tesla to market with electric pickup trucks like the Rivian R1t, The Ford F-150 Lightning, and the Hummer EV. Ironically, all three vehicles were announced after the Cybertruck was unveiled but somehow managed to beat get to the marker faster than Tesla.
While there are no official details about the pricing or availability yet of Tesla's electric truck, we can expect that those details will be revealed over time as more information becomes available about the exciting new technologies being developed by the team at Tesla Motors specifically for the Cybertruck.

Cybertruck Release Date
The Company's highly anticipated pickup is facing delays at the moment and will now be released until 2023 at the earliest. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said as much in a recent tweet. So far we do not have any concrete Cybertruck release date as of yet.
The all-electric pickup truck was originally scheduled to go into production in 2022, but Tesla had to push back the Cybertruck production date due to manufacturing challenges and supply chain issues caused by the COVID19 pandemic. And let's not forget the war in Ukraine.
The vehicle is still available for preorder in North America i.e. US, Mexico, and Canada. If you don't live in North America and did not reserve yours in the last 2-3 years, then you would have to wait for the foreseeable future.
The Tesla Cybertruck's design is slightly different from other off-road vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, or Ford F-150 Lightning because its body is made from 30x cold rolled stainless steel. Using cold rolled stainless steel allows for a unique design that is devoid of joints and rivets, thereby making the Cybertruck's exoskeleton exceptionally strong and yet cheap to make.
Unfortunately, you are no longer to select from the different motor configurations - single motor, dual motor, and tri-motor on the Tesla.com/Cybertruck website. You can only place your $100 reservation fee and hope for the best.
Here's what it looked like previously.
The Tesla Cybertruck is widely expected to be available for purchase sometime in 2023. However, it is still unclear if it will be offered as a standard model or if it will only be available in all 3 versions - single motor, dual motor, and tri-motor.

2022 News: Elon Musk responds to Tesla Cybertruck price
Since Tesla CEO Elon Musk first announced Tesla's plans for the Cybertruck back in 2019, it's been not only one of the most talked-about Tesla models yet to be released, but also the most highly anticipated vehicle that is not a sports car. although you can argue that all Teslas are sports cars due to their incredible acceleration and speed.
So, to summarize, here are a few points:
- We can expect the Cybertruck production to begin in mid-2023.
- We can also expect the Cybertruck to start at a much higher price point than initially announced.
- We can expect to see different specs from what was initially announced in 2019.
Having said all that, I can say for sure is that the Cybertruck is going to be an amazing product that gives us a glimpse into the future of product design. To quote Elon, "It's going to be a damn fine machine".
Reservations and Pricing for Tesla Cybertruck
The base model of this vehicle will cost $39,900 and can travel up to 500 miles on a single charge. It will have an all-electric powertrain that generates 500 horsepower with up to 600 lb.-ft. of torque from dual electric motors (one at each axle) and not rear wheel drive as previously suspected, allowing it to go from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. This is according to the previous specs posted on Tesla's website before it was taken down.
I can can personally vouch for Tesla's acceleration and speed claims as I was one of the few invited to the Cybertruck unveiling and got to take a test drive in the electric pickup truck. I even tried unsuccessfully to chase the Cybertruck.
From what I saw on the inside and from recent photos, it is safe to say that this electric truck will come with multiple Tesla signature advanced features like autonomous driving modes and driver sensing, which means the vehicle will conform to the driver's and not the other way round.
There are no plans yet on what the final cost will be, but I'm guessing it won't be cheap considering how much technology, time and effort has gone into making this thing possible. They even went out of their way to trademark the word Cyberbackpack which was a product already in existence.
Specifications and features of the Tesla Cybertruck
The maximum tow capacity for this truck is 14,000 pounds—that's more than double what you'd find on most standard Semi trucks and eighteen wheelers. Let that sink in for a moment.
Everyone remembers window-gate when Franz Von Holzhousen shattered the Cybertruck glass while trying to demonstrate it's armor glass. Prior to that, he had taken a sledge hammer to the body of the Cybertruck, proving the strength benefits of the 30x cold rolled stainless steel used to craft the body.
Tesla has also announced that the Cybertruck will be considered as a Class 8 semi-truck that can go 500 miles on one charge. I see a lot of disruption coming to the trucking and hauling industry.
Conclusion
The Tesla Cybertruck is a highly anticipated vehicle that will hopefully bring Level 5 autonomy and electric power not just to commercial trucking but to the automobile industry as a whole.
This futuristic electric truck will be able to handle multiple applications including cargo transport, hauling loads around cities at high speeds, on demand taxis, and even moving military supplies. These are all applications on top of the fact that is is a personal vehicle first. Now I'm not entirely sure is the bulletproof body and armor glass will still be included but if it is, this will indeed be one damn fine machine.
